The heartwarming source of feel-good stories, Chicken Soup for the Soul books have been around for decades. I remember reading them when they first came out in the 1990s. Never did I think I would have a story in one of these books.

I don’t even remember where I saw the call for submissions for a book about dogs. But as soon as I did I knew I had the perfect story. When our kids were young, we rescued a stray dog – in Texas no less – and overcame many obstacles to bring her home to Minnesota. She was our only family dog and devoted to Rich for 12 years – the one person who most adamantly resisted getting a dog.

The editors agreed and my story was chosen for the book My Hilarious, Heroic, Human Dog which was published September 7, 2021. “Rescuing Spot” was included in the chapter “And Dog Makes Family.”
