The Boundary Waters Journal

Unlike many who grow up in Duluth, I had never canoed in the Boundary Waters until I was married.  It only took one trip, and I was hooked.  My husband and I would drop off our kids with their grandparents and escape for a few days into the wilderness.  In time, we took our kids into the Boundary Waters as well.  Writing for The Boundary Waters Journal has given me another outlet for chronicling some of my adventures in the outdoors, and the intrepid winter trips undertaken by my sons.

Paddling with Mom – Summer 2020
Sharing a special trip with my grown son, Carl, following a favorite canoe route from the summer he spent working for an outfitter in the BWCAW.

Borderline Crazy – Winter 2020
Our sons Carl and Erik tested their mettle on a 3-day winter trek along the border route of the BWCAW, facing hip-deep snow on the portages and lakes lacking any sled-dog tracks.
